Maiden name: Elizabeth Smyth.
Married: John Beggs on 25 May 1877 at Ekenhead Parish, Belfast, Northern
Ireland.
Died: 26 July 1917 at 70 Newport St of cardiac arrest, age 58.
Parents: Samuel Smyth.

23 in the 1901 census.

- In 1911 census only four of the seven
children were mentioned as still being alive. This meams
that either Samuel or Joseph died between 1901 &
1911.
- Was listed as a dressmaker living at 115
McClure St in 1877 Belfast street directory.

Died: 14 April 1894, of bronchitis, at 1 Danube Street, Belfast.
Death reported by daughter in law, Mary Anne Beggs (wife of
Robert). Age reported as 94 at death, although this is probably
excessive.

26. Samuel Smyth
Born: c. 1818-1819.
Occupation: Coach-smith / blacksmith.
Died: 29 July 1877 at 139 McClure St, Belfast, age 58 years
(widower at death).
Daughter: Elizabeth Beggs.
- Samuel lived at 8 Rochford Place, Belfast
in 1865, and 14 Old Lodge Rd in 1870. Suspect he died
shortly after. Elizabeth probably had a sister Sarah
Smyth as this lady helped her when her son Joseph was
born.
- An Agnes Smyth was a witness on the
marriage of daughter Elizabeth in 1877,
this may be another daughter of Samuel.
- a John Smyth married Eliza Cairns about
1866 (children's baptisms recorded from 1867 at Ekenhead)
not confirmed yet as brother of Elizabeth, but appears
probable. Children: Margaret Smyth - bap 14 July 1867 at
Ekenhead.
- The following was in the Belfast
Newsletter 30 July 1877.
Smyth: July 29 at the residence of his son in law,
139 McClure St Belfast. Mr Samuel Smyth late of Old Lodge
Rd, aged 58 years. His remains will be removed for
internment in Shankhill Burying Ground tomorrow Tuesday
3pm. Friends will please accept this intimation.
- From a marriage registration at St Ann's
parish of Belfast in the diocese of Connor in the Church
of Ireland. Samuel Smyth age 27 bachelor blacksmith 80
Hopeton St father Samuel Smyth blacksmith married a
Catherine McGeough in 1875. The witnesses at the marriage
were a Joseph and Jane Black.When the couple's daughter
married in 1898 Samuel Smyth was described as a coach
builder. Samuel Smyth and Catherine's family Mary
Josephine, 1879, Samuel 1880, Sarah 1882, Catherine 1884,
Bernard 1888.
- In 1852 Belfast directory Smith and Waugh,
coachbuilders are listed under "coach
factories" at 20 Chichester Street from Donegal
Square East), with their residence at 22 Chichester
Street. (Note: Smith spelling so not sure related,
particularly as Samuel not listed as a name, although
first names of Smith & Waugh are not listed and both
are living at the same address). This tends to imply a
relatively modest shop. Belfast 1860 at 66 Donegall St a
Samuel Smyth, coachmaker and in the Griffiths Valuation
1847-1864 valuation of tenements in the parish of
Shankill St Ann's Ward in Donegall St Samuel Smyth the
occupier, Robert Bryce MD as the Immediate Lessor,
Description of Tenement as Ho, workshop & yard.
- Possible wife: Shankhill Graveyard transcriptions.
Erected by Samuel Smith of Belfast in memory of his
wife Sarah who departed this life 13/3/1871 aged 48. Also
7 of their children which died in infancy.
